Style: The Loungewear Edit

I’m back! Now seemed as good a time as ever to sit down and bring back the blog – something I had been meaning to do for a long time, sorry. For those that might be new here I’m a former magazine Fashion Editor turned blogger when my daughter, Daisy, arrived four years ago. Using my experience writing fashion pages and styling for shoots on a busy magazine, Style & Substance offers a mixture of high street style, home renovations (my husband is in construction) and lifestyle bits and bobs that I hope will help you through these very peculiar times and perhaps offer you a little escapism from reality.

This week I’m living for loungewear. Granted, this is probably not the most groundbreaking post to bring the blog back with but I hope you’ll agree loungewear is a fine example of style and substance and something I’m sure we will all be living in for the foreseeable.

While nothing about our current situation or the ‘new normal’ we find ourselves in is comfortable, we may as well be kind to ourselves and dress comfortably while we live through it and a hoodie teamed with a pair of joggers is the sartorial equivalent of a hug. Like wearing your pyjamas without the feeling you’ve not tried – which is a win in my books.

So I’ve put together a mixture of co-ord and separate pieces available now for you to snap up and relax in as we adjust to our new lives indoors…

Co-ord Sets

Gone are the days when a full hoodie and jogger set would earn you a few Sporty Spice comments, this season has seen co-ord sets win a place in my wardrobe as the perfect off-duty-but-still-pulled-together look. A relaxed uniform, the co-ord set offers a complete outfit option as well as equally stylish separates thus making it even better value for money. For a luxe look go for fine knits or cashmere if your budget permits.

Earning just as much kudos in my wardrobe as a co-ord set, comfy separates are a favourite of mine. I have sweatshirts in most colours these days (Top tip: for an oversized look shop the men’s section) and am slowly growing a collection of printed leggings and joggers to go with. My fondness for a hoodie is no secret and there are not many days I don’t wear one. My favourite places for comfy basics are Hush and H&M and I always choose neutral or classic colours as they will go with everything.

Happy Lounging
