I love a boilersuit, totally, wholly and unashamedly. So much so I’m willing to take the tyre fitter, decorator references and jokes that my husband and male relatives relentlessly make when I wear one. I confess, this is not my first post on the topic, I first waxed lyrical about the utility style boilersuit a few months ago when I bought the Topshop denim one (that I still love). But since then the £17.99 H&M denim one appeared (I resisted) and then the Marks & Spencer Holly Willoughby boilersuit landed and promptly sold out cementing its popularity this season…
There are many reasons to love a onesie: it’s versatile, easy to throw on when you have mere minutes to get dressed (which is me, all of the time) and above all it is seriously comfortable. I know it comes with one significant pitfall (i.e. going to the toilet) but I’m willing to overlook this for the many benefits it also offers.
Useful for numerous occasions and through all seasons, the humble boilersuit is a hardworking hero. Chuck on with a Breton and trainers for a day of running about after a toddler and it won’t show off your builder’s bum to the world. I’ve also come to love one for our swimming lessons when skin tight clothing and wet skin are a less than ideal combination.
Teamed with boots, a polo neck and a crossbody bag a simple black, khaki or navy onesie will see you through a day at the office with ease. And don’t be afraid to dress it up too, a slightly more fitted version in a bold colour is a great alternative to a dress on a night out when paired with a smart blazer and heels.
To demonstrate its versatility, I’ve put together 4 different ways of wearing a boilersuit that I hope are helpful.
