My Style: The Transitional Cropped Trouser…

by

Alas it happened, the heatwave has waved goodbye. Unlike most people I know I am gutted and truth be told I didn’t expect to be at all. I’m usually a huge fan of the cooler end of the seasonal spectrum – there’s something about cosying up indoors and layering clothes that hugely appeals to me – BUT now the hotter-than-European-holiday weather carrot has been dangled, I’m hooked. Sunny days spent in the garden/park/just generally outdoors (especially with a toddler) has been wonderful and even though I’ve exhausted my summer wardrobe (read: approx. 4 dresses, that are all the same) it’s been liberating to go jacket free for a few weeks.

Anyway, the upside of this slightly more demure weather is the fact that I have been enjoying trousers again, in particular cropped wide leg trousers – and I’m far from alone. I snapped up this cream denim pair with contrast topstitching from the good old faithful M&S sale for just £13, and ever since I’ve noticed the high street is awash with similar styles…

Transitional dressing it a tricky topic, especially in the office, but these cropped trousers are proving to be the perfect interim solution – great now with a t-shirt and sandals, and later with shirts, jumpers and boots when winter sets in. In all honesty I only recently learned how versatile the cropped trouser is by stepping out of my own sartorial comfort zone.

As a rule, I’ve always steered clear of high waisted anything as I don’t have a waist and I have narrow hips but the tight fit and loose leg of these trousers with a tucked in top actually flatters this fact rather than emphasise my boyish figure and lack of curves. Equally, I’ve worn them with a loose untucked top that falls at hip length and they work just as well. I was also nervous of long length wide trousers drowning my 5’5″ frame too but I couldn’t have been more wrong and anyway there’s always a heel for that problem worse case.

So in short (geddit), the good news is if like me you hope the warmer weather will return these trousers will be a worthy investment, and if it doesn’t (pray that not be the case) then you will still be fashionably armed (or should that be legged?!) for what the elements have in store…

Here is my edit of the best cropped trousers available now…
