Last week I was offered a very rare moment – a day off from being Mummy with a day trip to Champneys Spa – so naturally I grabbed the opportunity with both hands and ran! Alongside other bloggers, influencers and journalists I was given a sneak peek of the new Marine and Wellness Spa ahead of it’s launch this week.
Set in the heart of the Hertfordshire countryside and only a short train journey from London, Champneys in Tring is a hidden retreat (and handily only 30 mins from my front door) so is perfect for a day of well and truly switching off. On arrival, we were treated to a super healthy breakfast of smoothy bowls and various lattes – I had gingerbread and also sampled a tumeric latte which is not as weird tasting as it sounds…
From there we were handed robes and flips flops and guided to the changing rooms. Once changed there was a list of various treatments we could enjoy. Champneys have teamed up with French spa brand Thalgo to create the Marine and Wellness spa. As the name would suggest, all the treatments at the spa centre around marine ingredients so I began with salt inhalation. I was handed a nozzle as wide as my face to hold in front of my nose and mouth and instructed to inhale deeply. I don’t know quite what i expected so I braced myself but the sensation was very gentle. The premise of this treatment was to re-energise while also helping to blast away cold, clean out your sinuses and detox.
Beginning to feel suitably relaxed next up I was chaperoned into a room with a giant spaceship like machine in it – much like a sun bed but with a head hole! Intrigued as to what was coming I laid on a suspended plate and then the therapist closed the lid over my body before turning it on. Immediately the plate started to gently vibrate and the room was lit up with the light therapy lights that were doing their work to my body. In addition to the vibrations and light I was warmed with steam and then left to drift off to the sounds of the rainforest. After about 20 minutes of chilling my body was sprayed with little jets in the pod, starting cold and getting warmer.
Finally, in my now zen state I was given an algae wrap. A mixture of algae oil, marine springwater and algae wax was smothered over my entire body before I was wrapped up. After the perfect head massage I was left to drift of into a sleep while my skin absorbed the precious minerals and re-energised me.
Lounging around the grounds and making use of the indoor and outdoor hot tubs was the last order of the day before getting dressed and finally enjoying a healthy juice before returning to my normal life (reluctantly).
After the most relaxing morning my mind and body has known since before Daisy arrived I cannot recommend this experience enough. Perfect for the time poor mummies among us (that will be most of us then) who need a reboot, the premise of this spa is all about re-energising, wellbeing and rejuvenation, three magical words that most of us yearn to hear! There are four journeys to choose from and each one includes between 6-8 treatments. Don’t just take my word for it – get yourself down there and have a well earned day off!
