Mummy Style: The Checked Blazer

by

Since returning from our holiday (sob sob) it would appear Autumn has arrived in a big way. I’m not complaining, in my humble opinion new season means only one thing, new trends!!! The change of season is the perfect opportunity to have a style cleanse and introduce some new key pieces into your wardrobe to inject and extend the life of your pre-existing items.

Step forward the check blazer, if you didn’t already know this was a must-have item, you do now. It began life as a sell-out Zara version and now the rest of the high street has created their own version too. Super wearable and perfect for the tricky transitional weather this time of year brings, it is the perfect new buy for September. It’s also an item straight from the catwalk that us mere mortals can wear, enjoy and most importantly, afford

I’ve always enjoyed wearing blazers, it’s a classic piece of clothing that will work for you for years and I’ve learned to love it even more as a mummy for it’s excellent outfit elevating abilities. Throw a blazer over a sweatshirt, t-shirt or hoodie and smarten up your outfit in an instant.

One of the lovely things about the monochrome check blazer is that the print does most of the work for you so you can keep it simple underneath with jeans, a t-shirt and flats –  items most of us will have in our wardrobe already so you’re already halfway there.

This one is girlfriend fit so is not too tailored but not too oversized or boxy either. I’d say it’s true to size but I’ve gone a size up for maximum layering potential when it gets colder. Finishing just a bit longer than your average blazer, the length streamlines your silhouette covering up a multitude of sins (for me it does anyway!) and the sleeves are full length but I like to roll them up.

I am yet to take it off and I’m not lying when I say it goes with everything. It’s given my mummy wardrobe a whole new lease of life and I highly recommend you go get yourself one too…

Happy Shopping
