Whether you did it dry or not, January is over but even though it’s February and it’s all about romance and pancakes the days are still cold and the nights are still creeping in early so for me it is all about getting cosy indoors or Hygge-ing if you will.
Hygge – a concept shared with us from the Danish is about enjoying life’s simple pleasures and living cosily – a notion I can fully get on board with. From the very first day we came home with Daisy all of our evenings (and some days) have been spent indoors with an early night so I certainly appreciate the simple things, such as sleep and coffee!
Controversially, I am among the few that love the coldest season in the calendar – there’s something about layering, scarves, comfy knits and fresh cold days that really makes me happy. A long walk on a sunny winter’s day with Daisy (usually to get coffee) is certainly one of my simple pleasures. On the slightly less energetic days when we have had a sleepless night (there have been a lot!) we don’t stray far from the house so I like nothing more than putting on the perfect pieces that give me joy and keep me cosy…
This thick cable knit jumper from River Island is one of the warmest knits I have bought this year so far. While it’s extremely chunky (I bought it a size up), it’s waist length so doesn’t swamp me – I do struggle to wear it under some of my coats though! The recent snow blizzards gave me the perfect excuse to wrap up in it so it’s been a worthy investment.
Without a doubt though the most Hygge item in my wardrobe are my slippers – I live in them. From when I first came home post-birth with ridiculously swollen ankles to present day I am never far from these foot huggers – or Hyggers! Daisy also has a pair of the little booties and they are gorgeous. Made and lined with the softest sheepskin, not only do they keep her feet toasty they also velcro on and come up quite high so are the only shoes she owns that she cannot pull off – and we have experienced quite a few cinderella moments in shopping centres with her shoes!
After a busy week (such as this one) there’s nothing I look forward to more than a quiet cosy weekend snuggled up in my comfiest clothing…
