This post could not come at a better time, after a week of illness and being housebound (Daisy and Mr Style & Substance were both hit) I have a night out tonight and I cannot wait. Off out for a girly night of cocktails for our ‘work’ Christmas party (although our bosses AKA the children don’t know this nor would they probably sanction it!) I am so excited to wear something that is not covered in sick or snot and get my festive mojo going.
Up until recently, if I am honest, I was never a fan of sequins. I could appreciate them and would totally be dazzled by them but after years of party dress pages in my former magazine life I had had my fill. It was a trend I was happy to view rather than partake in…
That was until last Autumn when Dior’s sequin high neck top landed – an instant game-changer. Given the significant price tag it was even better when the H&M inspired piece hit the shop floor last year…there was only one problem, I was 8 months pregnant and completely unable to wear it (if it had fit I would have looked like a life size disco-ball). Needless to say I bought it anyway and promised myself I would wear it next Christmas.
Less obvious than a dress but just as glamorous the sequin top allows for not-so-girly people like myself to team it with jeans or black trousers. I love the contrast of mixing a super statement piece such as this top with low maintenance ripped jeans and killer heels. The sequin top is also the perfect piece for a bit of daytime glamour and you will more than likely find me wearing this on Christmas day too. It also goes without saying that this look saves you braving the cold – so it’s clever as well as being fabulous.
Of course since I bought my top the High Street has served up a plethora of sparkly stunners all at great prices. So if like me you are looking for an alternative to the little party dress, this might just be what you were looking for…
